![]() So grateful for rest and recovery. I was able to take a short trail run this morning. I think of the days (last week) my body wouldn't do much without some pain, and give thanks. To be honest, I spend most of my time as a bodyworker educating clients on the abilities of the body as we physically evolve, and holding compassion for ourselves when we feel critical about not being able to do things we once have. We are still capable of doing so much as we age, but there is wisdom in realizing your 10 miler will now have to be a 5 miler, as pushing through the pain is often not the key. Your body talks to you all day, everyday. Pain felt in the body is communication. Your body should be your best friend, are you listening?

I am excited to announce I'm back to Massage Therapy May 19th!
There are quite a few changes happening for NMM+Y but change is where the good resides and inevitable. But first... NO MORE TIPS! I am no longer taking gratuities for any work moving forward, any tips given will be put in a donation fund for local BIPOC Massage Therapy recipients. Due to the challenges small businesses were met with last year, rising prices, and what was felt as the best and safest choice for all in this current time, @nicolemillermassage will no longer be a Mobile Massage + Yoga provider in San Diego. I am humbled and grateful for all who welcomed me into your personal homes and work spaces, I do not take these visits and our time together lightly. Please consider visiting me in my new magical space. I'll miss your pets Starting Wednesday May 19th clients can find me in Mission Valley, Wednesdays and Fridays and some floating Saturdays each month. Scheduling availability will pick up as the summer moves on, but feel free to message me with days of the week that work best for you. The address is 2525 Camino del Rio South, suite 315 in San Diego, Ca. I am still offering the well loved Yoga + Massage combination as we take time to honor Yoga's roots, connect with your body, and then honor You afterwards. If you have questions on how this works, please ask. Prepayment is now required for booking, and packages will no longer be offered. Masks are required to enter the building NMM+Y will be practicing in, therefore masks are required during sessions until further notice. Your understanding on this matter is appreciated. All info on my treatments offered is on my website, link in my bio. Online booking and prepayment are available now on my website, please bear with me as I refine what I began growing back in 2017. LGBTQIA + BIPOC discount of 10% each session. Every session. I am also working on a sliding scale option + donation fund for BIPOC recipients of Massage Therapy. Info coming soon. ![]() 3 Things Massage Therapists Hear That I'd Like To Respond To: 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 1) "You can't hurt me, go as deep as you want"... We don't want to hurt you! The point of all massage sessions is to find what's ailing you and help let it go. There isn't always need for torture chamber style pressure, some days we need less and that will be more than enough. In spas where deep tissue is an upcharge, I've seen clients circle back on pressure preference and request more of a medium pressured approach. You might want that pressure, but your body might not. You/we have to listen to the body, there are times the tissue is not relaxed enough to allow the work to be done, even after all the effleurage in the world. Ignoring this and pounding further into this tissue may cause injury. That injury may also become permanent. Nmm does not upcharge for changed minds, so sessions are always based on client preference. We let your body's needs guide the session. 2) "You're working in the wrong area, my pain is here"... We're very aware of your pain centers, in fact we're so aware that we also know that entire muscle group, how it functions when injured, and distal and local muscles in that group that need attention. If that one angry guy (muscle) is going to release, think of it as if you're trying to convince someone that their buddy is a little angry, needs a snickers. You might speak to the calmer buddy, then they can help coerce the angry guy with relaxing a little bit. Most muscle groups work as teams! 3) "I need deep tissue"... You might, but the attention to online buzzwords seems to drive reasons for booking more than personal necessity. If it is your first massage, deep tissue might feel like torture to you. We don't need an exorbitant amount of pressure all over the entire body to release tension. In fact, many deep tissue sessions may kick your injury further down the hill. We don't want that. An educated bodyworker will know when and where to apply the most pressure and do this with caution. Deep tissue is not just a massage therapist buzzword, it's an actual modality. Trust us! ![]() I love using my Pranamat Acupressure mat to lessen the tension I've had in my neck and shoulders lately. We're not always able to see others for bodywork, right now especially has us staying in and apart, so you have to be creative. This acupressure mat helps release the tension in your back by simply laying on it for a few minutes. It connects with points on your body to encourage release, and it works. I get a little squirmy my first few minutes but this coupled with ingestion of my full spectrum CBD oil, and I'm ready for the rest of my day. I encourage all clients to find ways to help themselves when their practitioner isn't around. You can find this awesome mat here: amzn.to/2KkXdPL What do you do for your body when you can't make it to a massage? ![]() I took daily movement indoors last week during the rain. 🚴🏽♀️Lots of puddles out there to dodge 💦 @auroraeyoga mat + a @sprytraining resistance band in my bedroom for 20 minutes. I'll share what I did if you have some bands and 20 minutes. These can totally be done without any bands and still be effective: • On all fours • 🐕 15 x 3 fire hydrants (lift leg to side) 🐎 15 x 3 donkey kicks (heel up to sky) [I do child's pose/down dog in between sets] • Standing • 🤢 10 x 2 burpees (do as many as you can, no one's watching) 🍰 25 x 3 side lunges 🍑 25 x 3 squats • On back • 🦋 30 x 2 toe tap sit ups (wide legged sit ups, tap top of foot as you twist torso) 🐡 30 x 2 Russian twists 🌙 30 x 2 oblique ups, each side ▪︎ S p h i n x P o s e ▪︎ 1 min Rest. Eat. Breathe. Drink water. Clean your space. Stay home. I love and miss you, this doesn't have to be it but please move your body if you can today ♡ Aurorae Yoga Mat can be found here: amzn.to/3euIC23 and the SPRY Resistance Ankle Bands here: amzn.to/2xy4kRN #athometogether #homegym #nicolemillermassage #Monday #sandiego #rainyday #gratitude ![]() Follow this link to watch this demonstration on how to loosen up tension in your hands and forearms. Quite a lot of hand pain can reside in tight wrist flexors and extensors, in the arms. Try these out and let me know how it works! www.facebook.com/nicolemillermassage/videos/860677717688283/ I got this awesome hand-saving tool here from a friend years ago, but you can find these here: amzn.to/34FU1XW #athometogether #selfquarantine #selfmassage #nicolemillermassage #forearms ![]() Bolster your quarantine with a good restorative solo session today ❤ Bolsters can be easily replaced with couch cushions, pillows, rolled up blankets or towels. Try these out and try doing 10 breaths each pose. That should be about 3 minutes per pose. These poses can help open the hips, shoulders and low back. If you've been doing a lot of sitting, find a spot on your floor and do these with some support, we all need a little of that right now. 🌹 These are fantastic to do first thing in the morning or right before bed. If doing these in the evening, try taking a bath before to help relax your mind and body. Find this bolster here: amzn.to/3bcW2h0 Be good to yourself, others and please stay home. #athometogether #bolster #sandiego #quarantine #mindandbody #peace #restore #breathe #shelterinpeace ![]() I've been using these cups for a while now and I love their versatility. They were implemented in my mobile massage business to further manual care while keeping things clean and safe. These cups are easily the best thing I have laying around my living room (after my dogs!). With some oil, you can 'park' or glide these cups over tight areas of the back, shoulders, legs and arms. I highly recommend referring to my post here: (www.facebook.com/nicolemillermassage/posts/1379054882282779) and watching some video on the process before you try it out. I do not recommend more than 20 mins at at time as the suction can be more than it feels after some time. You might get a little 'hickey' mark, that is normal and only stagnated blood that's risen to the surface of the skin. It's a good thing as it's moving the tight locked up tissue in the muscle and allowing blood flow and more oxygen which increases healing time. *Please use caution with all in-home therapy and stop use if any negative reactions occur.
